Manning Clark Singers
The Manning Clark Singers are a vocal chamber group who meet every Tuesday from 7.30 – 9.30 during the ACT school term. This lovely community sings a wide range of beautiful repertoire with an emphasis on enjoyment, performance and to gain a deeper understanding of quality music and singing technique.
The MC Singers are conducted by founding Director Fleur Millar, and are accompanied on Dymphna Clark’s piano by Sam Row in the beautiful living room of Manning Clark House.
Fleur employs both a holistic and traditional method of teaching singing. The classes begin with an exploration of breath work with influences from Iyengar Yoga, Feldenkrais and other natural health practices which benefit the development of a beautiful voice. Within this time, Fleur helps individual singers access their voice. These practices are then applied to understanding Italian bel canto singing, through the language of music.
The beautiful songs sung in rehearsals are performed by the MC Singers at venues in the Canberra region including Manning Clark House and Smiths Alternative, and for patients at the ICU ward at the Canberra Hospital. A lovely break is shared over a cuppa and food, which the Choir members bring every week. The cost is $130 per term, as well as MCH membership ($50 per year) or an equivalent donation to MCHI, and a $10 fee per week for the accompanist.
