Manning Clark House is one of the relatively early houses designed in a modernist style by one of Australia’s finest architects and cultural critics, Robin Boyd. The connection between Manning and Dymphna Clark and their architect was that in addition to their professional work – historian, linguist, architect respectively – they all played a significant role as activists and public intellectuals, providing critiques of Australian life and ideas with a view to political, social and cultural change and reform. Dymphna Clark founded Manning Clark House Inc in 1997 with a view to its preservation as a listed heritage property and to enable its use as a centre for cultural, intellectual and social activities. The house stands as used by its original inhabitants.
