Women’s economic empowerment and the Pacific
Each year on 8th March
the world celebrates International Women’s Day. The focus on economic
empowerment this year is a timely reminder of the economic crisis faced by the
world and the vital role women can play in strengthening global economies if
they empowered to do so.
This March Lara Jacques, will be discussing the role of UN Women Australia in the economic empowerment of women particularly in the Pacific.
Lara is the Director of Operations for UN Women Australia, the National Committee for UN Women in Australia. She is passionate about international development and human rights particularly in relation to women in the Pacific. Lara holds a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of New South Wales. She was chosen as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development and spent a year working at the Tongan National Centre for Women and Children. Previously Lara spent 10 years working in the corporate sector.
